We’re in the process of creating a very large 3,000 square foot rock garden at our Research Greenhouses here in west Michigan!
We began this process late last summer of 2014 with the delivery of 9 dump-truck loads of soil and over 15 pallets of sandstone for the wall and pathways.
In late October, we planted several hundred Sedums and other hardy succulents in various color design patterns.
Pictured on the right is one of our favorite combinations of SunSparkler® Sedum ‘Firecracker’ with it’s green & red-edged sister SunSparkler Sedum ‘Lime Zinger’.
The bright gold-foliaged little plant is Sedum acre ‘Aureum’ and produces a brilliant color display in late spring. However, it does fade to green as the heat of summer commences.
Here’s a bit of a different angle with SunSparkler® Sedum ‘Firecracker’ combined with Sedum ‘Angelina’ as it is coming into full flower.
The purple-foliaged groundcover in the center is SunSparkler® Sedum ‘Dazzleberry’ with its compact 8″ tall habit.
We’re hoping the hot pink late-summer flowers of ‘Dazzleberry’ will combine with the gold-foliage of Sedum ‘Angelina’! We’ll report in later this season!
